The process is easier than it sounds, and with the right tools, anyone can make kratom capsules that fit their unique needs. Kratom Gecko has the kratom powder to get you started, so grab your favorite bag (or two!) and follow this step-by-step guide on how to make kratom capsules.
Kratom Capsule Basics
Kratom capsules are filled with kratom powder—the crushed and pulverized leaves of the Mitragyna Speciosa plant—and are one of the most convenient, cleanest, and easiest-to-consume kratom products on the market. When purchasing kratom capsules from kratom vendors, they come pre-measured with a consistent amount of powder and in varying capsule sizes. For reference, Kratom Gecko capsules come in 00 size and contain one gram of powder. When making your own kratom capsules, you’ll want to consider how much kratom powder you’d like to fill each capsule with and purchase the right size capsule.
Capsule Sizes
Empty capsules can be purchased in bulk online or at a health food store and can range in size from 5, the smallest, to 000, the largest. The specifics will depend on the manufacturer, so we’ll focus on averages here. The most common capsule sizes for kratom enthusiasts tend to be on the larger end, 0, 00, and 000.
Kratom Gecko uses size 00, which is typically 2.3 centimeters in length, about 8 millimeters thick, and can hold between 750 mg and 1000 mg of kratom powder. Our best advice when choosing capsule size is to purchase ones that will hold a large volume that you can still easily swallow. If you have trouble swallowing larger pills, you may need to reduce the capsule size to a more manageable one and take more than one capsule per dose.
Capsule Types
There are two main types of capsules available: gelatin and vegetarian/vegan. Gelatin capsules are made from collagen derived from animals, and vegetarian/vegan capsules are made from plant-based materials.
How to Make Kratom Capsules
Step 1: Choose Your Kratom Strain and Dosage
One of the benefits of making your own kratom capsules is the customizability—meaning you can choose your dose and mix different strains to your liking. You can also add other powder supplements, such as turmeric or ashwagandha, to a single capsule to create your own wellness concoction. Seek advice from your physician before combining kratom with any other health supplement to avoid negative interactions.
Step 2: Gather Materials
You’ll need the following to get started making your own kratom capsules:
- Kratom powder
- Empty capsules
- Food scale
- Container to weigh kratom powder
- Capsule filling tray/machine (optional)
- Tamper (optional)
- Parchment paper (to keep a clean workspace)
- Storage container for finished capsules
- Labels
Step 3: Prepare Workspace
Lay out a sheet of parchment paper over a clean, flat surface. The parchment paper will catch any spillage and ensure that you don’t waste any precious powder.
Step 4: Measure Kratom
Using a food scale, measure out the amount of kratom powder you’ll need per capsule. For example, if you want 1 gram per capsule and are making 50 capsules, you’ll need 50 grams of powder.
Step 5: Fill Capsules
If filling capsules by hand, remove the top (cap) and bottom (body) of the capsules and lay them out on a clean surface. You can either use the body of the capsule as a scoop to collect the kratom inside, or you can use a spoon or other measuring scoop to drop the powder in. Be sure to gently press down on the powder with a tamper or other tool to compress the powder and top off with more powder if needed. Fill the capsule until slightly overflowing. Place the cap over the body and press firmly until securely closed.
If using a capsule filling tray, follow the instructions that come with it. Capsule filling trays streamline the process and reduce the mess by holding the body piece in place during filling. Most capsule-filling trays work in the same general way:
- Place the bodies of the capsules in the tray (trays can hold anywhere from 100 to 400 capsules)
- Gently pour pre-measured kratom powder into the tray
- Use the scraping tool to spread kratom powder evenly across capsules
- Use the tamper tool to compress the powder, eliminating air pockets
- Add more kratom powder until slightly overflowing
- Continue steps until no more powder can be added to capsules
- Once capsules are sufficiently filled, place the caps onto the bodies and press firmly until the capsules are closed
Tip: There are a few different options for capsule machines/filling trays, so we recommend doing your own research to find which tool will work best for you depending on your budget and needs. Be sure to match up the size of the capsules you’re using with the capsule machine, as each machine will only work with a specific capsule size.
Step 6: Label and Store
Store your filled capsules in a cool, dry place and include a label with the date, strain, and dosage.
